Delhi Homeless Shelter Program

As a trusted partner of the Indian government, we will now be providing 3 warm and nutritious meals, daily, to over 300 homeless shelters in Delhi.  These shelters, run by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), host approximately 6,000-8,000 people daily.  These numbers, however, can double to 13,000 as people seek shelter during the winter months.  A result of a 5 month successful pilot program, Akshaya Patra’s menu includes roti, dal and vegetables which will be cooked at kitchens located in Jahangirpuri, Gole Market and Badarpur DMC.  

 

According to DUSIB member-expert Bipin Rai, “It is our government’s responsibility to ensure that no one sleeps hungry.  We are working on that motto.  We have been working hard to provide better facilities to the homeless.  They have been given cots and mattresses to sleep and doctors visit them frequently for regular check-ups.  We will now provide tasty, nutritious and piping hot food to them.”
